An English-language comedy, “The 39 steps”, will be performed in the Salle de la Comédie on Sunday, November 24, at 3 p.m. Created in 2016, the English Theater Company is a troupe of around 60 actors and technicians based in Sainte-Dode which presents plays in English in Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Haute-Garonne.
The play which will be performed on the stage of the La Comédie hall is adapted from the British spy film “The 39 Steps”, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and released in 1935. Presented for the first time in 1995, the play was rewritten by Patrick Barlow in 2005 and had enormous success in London (10 years on display). In France, the French version, directed by Eric Métayer, won two Molières. Recently, the play is back on stage in London and in French version in Brussels.
Only 4 actors play multiple characters and recreate, in a wacky way, the world of Alfred Hitchcock and all the highlights of the film: London, the Scottish Highlands, car chases, a love story, espionage and suspense.
The action is very visual and can be easily followed without mastering the language of Shakespeare. A description of the scenes in French will be available for those who are afraid of not following the dialogues.
