Lhe room 2 of the Rex cinema was almost full, this Saturday, November 9, for the closing evening of the 33rd Sarlat Film Festival (Dordogne) during which the winners were revealed.

The 2024 vintage of the event kept all its promises in terms of attendance, since, this Saturday evening, before the screening of the closing film, “Rabia”, we were not far from the 2023 record, i.e. 6,800 spectators. “This edition is a success,” confirms Julien Robert, the director of the Sarladais establishment. There are still so many people coming. I think he appreciates the films shown, in their diversity. »

Another reason for satisfaction, the collaboration with Tabac which should welcome, in 2027, a film studio. “For the filming of Petites Séquences lycéennes, the young people had to film in a train carriage from the 1920s,” underlines Rafael Maestro, the director of Ciné passion. It was entirely produced by second year CAP apprentices from Pré-de-Cordy high school. This action is one of the three pillars of the France Tabac project. »

“Rabia” as obvious

Regarding the prize list, no big surprise.

The film “Rabia”, by director Mareike Engelhardt, was popular with the public. It must be said that beyond the story, which deals with the wives of Daesh fighters, the film was largely shot in Sarlat, on the premises of France Tabac. “Something tells me that it was the extras and their families who voted,” says a festival regular with a smile. This current affairs film also won the young jury prize.

For the high school students’ prize, again, no real suspense, since “Planet B”, a science fiction film, wins. Megan Northman (“Rabia”) and Benjamin Voisin (“Playing with Fire”) share the acting prize.

Note that for high school films, young people from Pré-de-Cordy climb to third place, with “Pause Café”, behind “Picz”, from the Jean-Monnet high school in Saint-Étienne and “Le Roi des idiots” , from the Jean XXIII high school, in Montigny-lès-.
