After 19 months of traveling the globe singing her hits to stadiums full of hysterical Swifties, the biggest star of our time, Taylor Swift, is finally coming to Canada – six sold-out shows in Toronto starting Thursday, then three in Vancouver in December – to cap off the most lucrative tour in Music history.
When the curtain falls one last time, on December 8, at BC Place, the already legendary tour Eras will certainly have crossed the two billion dollar revenue mark.
How dizzying is it? The tour Music of The Spheresby Coldplay, is the only other music tour to exceed $1 billion. At 1.059 billion, according to the latest reports, that’s about half as much as Taylor Swift.
In short, it’s madness everywhere the 34-year-old American artist goes. She thrills her audience so much that during these concerts, the ground sometimes shakes to the point of triggering activity detectable by seismographs.
“The only other thing I can compare it to is the phenomenon of Beatlemania,” he told New York Times the legendary Billy Joel after seeing the show in Tampa Bay.
Long before its conclusion, in the fall of 2023, the show became a film that obviously had spectators running to cinemas. Result: $267 million in additional revenue, not counting the $75 million that Disney+ would have paid to add it to its platform.
500,000 visitors expected
Over the past few years, Taylor Swift has become a formidable economic engine. In all the cities she visited during the tour, merchants did great business, with hotel prices notably reaching record highs.
Economists even feared that it would cause a substantial increase in inflation in its wake.
In the Queen City, where downtown rooms rent for up to $2,000 per night, the organization Destination Toronto predicts an economic impact of $282 million during its stay. More than 500,000 tourists are expected in Toronto.

The Canadian metropolis, although accustomed to hosting large events, has had to put in place special measures to manage traffic in its city center, which will be stormed by Swifties.
Obviously, the person responsible for all this is not left out. According to the magazine ForbesTaylor Swift’s personal fortune is estimated to be more than 1.6 billion US dollars. She is the first billionaire artist solely thanks to her music-related activities.
A perfect artistic quest
Behind these astronomical figures, there is, at the core, a gifted artist who has been writing and composing her songs herself since she was a teenager.
“His artistic quest is perfect. Taylor Swift is a human who had a taste for writing songs to do good in the world and not to be a star,” says host Mike Gauthier, who has scrutinized the careers of all the big names in music since four decades.
He remembers being amazed by Taylor Swift when he saw her at the Rogers Center in Toronto during one of her previous tours. “The last time I felt something like this was at Madonna concerts in the 1980s.”
Political support sought
Taylor Swift’s popularity is so strong that both candidates for the presidency of the United States have done everything they can to gain her support.
Unsurprisingly, the singer ended up giving her support to Democrat Kamala Harris in a message published to her 283 million Instagram subscribers, just after the only debate of the campaign pitting the vice-president against the ex-president Donald Trump.

“There are people on my TikTok page who were crying when they heard the news. They were crying with joy and relief,” University of Kansas professor Brian Donovan told CBC.
However, it was not enough. Donald Trump’s clear victory seems to demonstrate the limits of the influence that celebrity positions can have, even that of an immensely popular star like Taylor Swift.
