The British actor, who has played the character of James Bond in the cinema five times, does not care who will succeed him in the famous franchise.
Don’t talk to Daniel Craig about James Bond again. The British actor responded this week bluntly to a question about the identity of the next interpreter of the English spy. During an interview with Variety, Daniel Craig clarified that he “doesn’t give a damn” who succeeds him.
“If you had to pass the James Bond torch to another actor, who would you like to see play the character?” the trade magazine asked him. “I don’t give a damn,” replied the actor, who is currently promoting Queera film at the antipodes of the spy saga.
Asked about the same subject in 2022, Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond between 1995 and 2002, gave a similar response to GQ. “Who gets the part? I don’t care. It’ll be interesting to see who gets it. I wish him all the luck in the world.”
Cut your veins
Daniel Craig, who played James Bond in five films between 2006 and 2021, has long had a complicated relationship with the character. In 2015, during the release of O07 Spectrehe declared to the magazine Time Out that he preferred to “cut his veins” rather than refill for another film.
“I’ve had my fill. All I want is to move on,” he declared before specifying that if he agreed to do another James Bondit would be “only for the money”. It must be said that the filming of Spectre had been punctuated by accidents. Daniel Craig himself injured his knee.
Daniel Craig had agreed to stand again for Dying can waitthe filming of which had been cataclysmic and marked by rare bad luck, from writing the script to promotion, including filming. The film had a series of setbacks, delays and more or less serious accidents.
Rumors
In 2022, Daniel Craig explained to the BBC that he did not regret his decision to turn his back on the franchise James Bond. “I was very lucky to do this for 17 years (…) I said goodbye to it the way I wanted. I had the chance to do what I wanted with the last film.”
Three years after the release of Dying can waitthe character of 007 has still not found a new actor to take on his costume, despite strong speculation. The latest rumors mention Aaron Taylor-Johnson, actor seen in Kick Ass et Bullet Train. Regé-Jean Page, star of Bridgertonwas also mentioned.
Since the release of Dying can waitAmazon bought MGM, the studio behind the saga James Bond. But the Broccoli family’s company, Eon, retains broad creative control over the franchise, based on the novels of British writer Ian Fleming.
