Called “Chanté Nou”, this competition is organized by three stakeholders: the singer Danielle René-Corail, director of the “Kréol” association, the historian Sabine Andrivon-Milton, founder of “SAM Editions” and the rectorate of Martinique . This project focuses on passing on part of our musical heritage to younger generations.
Danielle René-Corail enthusiastically presents the genesis and main lines of the project. This initiative aims to revive this musical heritage, by placing it in a form of modernity.
This project has been close to my heart for years. The idea is to reappropriate, to rediscover or discover the key songs and important rhythms of Martinique’s heritage. We chose to hold a competition to motivate and make it more fun. This concerns CM1, CM2 and 6th grade students from 16 schools. We are going to ask them to reappropriate titles and sing them. And of course there will be finalists. With coaching work we will make selections in establishments. And all the finalists will be present in 2025 on a large stage in Fort-de-France, to perform the songs.

For the famous Martinican singer, the trigger for this competition was born from the observation of certain deficiencies and a palpable desire to share.
We realize that there is no transmission regarding the rhythms and music of our heritage. So we want to teach these young people a pretty mazurka, to teach them to sing a pretty beguine, etc. We will offer them songs, they will first be accompanied by their teachers and then experienced artists will provide coaching, to bring them to the final.
This musical transmission project began on Monday, November 4, 2024. Registrations and information can be found on ADAGE, the National Education application dedicated to the generalization of artistic and cultural education.
