The trial for domestic violence of Bruno Pelat, companion of Iris Mittenaere, crowned Miss France and Miss Universe in 2016, opened Wednesday behind closed doors before the Paris Criminal Court.
Iris Mittenaere, 31, with bobbed hair and a beige coat, arrived in the room accompanied by her family and her lawyer. Visibly very moved, she sat in the front row, curled up against a wall.
Bruno Pelat, 22 years old, gray suit and hair combed back, took the stand to hear the facts he allegedly committed on the evening of September 25: having hit Iris Mittenaere, hitting her head against a wall , insulted her and threatened to blow up her contracts.
The ex-miss’s lawyer then intervened to request closed session in order to respect the privacy of her client, which the court accepted, asking many members of the public to leave the room.
Bruno Pelat should have been tried immediately on September 27 after his custody, but the hearing was postponed at the request of Ms. Mittenaere, who claimed not to be “psychologically capable” of coming.
He was placed under judicial supervision with an obligation to provide care, to live in a department other than the complainant and prohibited from entering into contact with Iris Mittenaere.
“I don’t know my mother”
The young man had already been sentenced in June 2022 for violence and death threats against his father, then in April 2023 for violence against another partner.
Mr. Pelat has “recourse to threats and violence which seems to be a usual recourse in the context of the relationships he maintains with those around him,” the prosecutor estimated at the end of September before the trial was postponed.
The young man, who had been in a relationship with Ms. Mittenaere for six months at the time of the events, had recognized an “impulsivity problem” and said he “feared abandonment”. “I don’t know my mother,” he said.
Iris Mittenaere, former Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais 2015, was crowned Miss France 2016 then Miss Universe the same year. She is now an influencer and television host.
