Madeleine Péreira, author of “Borboleta”, will dedicate her comic strip at the Parenthese bookstore in Saint-Céré on Saturday November 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“Hey, Madeleine, it’s obvious that you’re Portuguese, you have the M in McDonald’s instead of your eyebrows.” Madeleine is constantly brought back to her origins; and yet, his knowledge of Portugal is limited to Cristiano Ronaldo, xenophobic jokes about the “Guesh” and the language, all the same, that his father passed on to him.

But the latter, who arrived in at the age of twelve, stubbornly refuses to talk about his native country and his childhood under the dictatorship… As a result, Madeleine barely knows that Salazar was a dictator, and not just a bad guy. wizard in Harry Potter.

The heroine of “Borboleta” is a young girl who questions her Portuguese origins and her family’s exile in France during the dark years of the Salazar dictatorship, an era which ended fifty years ago this year 2024.

His drawings take us from Portugal in the 70s to today’s Lisbon via where his family arrived.

A comic book where the “big” story and the intimate are closely linked.
