The month of November has begun, Ontarians are returning to winter time this weekend… What can we do in Ontario to combat the lack of light that is setting in? There are film festivals for people in Ottawa with Objectif Cinéma and for those in Toronto, with Cinéfranco. But the cultural thread also offers you a multidisciplinary festival, musical artists to discover, improvisation and the start of an important thematic week in French Ontario.
Musique
Maten in the North
The Innu group Maten will be touring Northern Ontario this week. The musicians can be seen at the Greater Sudbury Place des arts on November 6, at the La Ronde Cultural Center in Timmins on November 7 and at the Hearst Place des arts on November 8. The band from Mani-utenam, on the Quebec North Shore, has existed for 25 years. It’s time to make their music known to a larger population, which was highlighted during their appearance at Contact ontarois last January. Maten’s energy, the important message and the songs in French and Innu-aïmun were able to convince the audience present and, fortunately, a few broadcasters answered the call.

Bermudababes in Ottawa
French Ontario was also able to discover Bermuda during Contact ontarois 2024. The artist born in Bermuda, raised in Ireland and living in Sherbrooke, Quebec, channeled the mom rage in an unrivaled stage presence. In his EP Bermudababesshe returns to her postpartum depression, a subject which will not be taboo on stage. The millennial pop singer will shake the walls of the Fourth Theater of the National Arts Center (NAC) this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Franco-Sudburois diversity
National Francophone Immigration Week takes place from November 3 to 9, with numerous talks, community activities and shows. On Monday, the Francophone Immigration Support Network of Northern Ontario is offering a panel discussion at the Place des arts du Grand Sudbury, around the theme Our heritage of tomorrow beyond differences. The goal is to go beyond the boundaries of generations and cultures of origin by bringing together five panelists who must represent two generations of Franco-Ontarians of origin and two generations of Franco-Ontarians of immigrant background. We will find among others Joëlle Villeneuve, Marguerite F. Mbonimpa and Rachid Bagaoui.

Theater
The Actoral Biennial in Ottawa
The Trillium Theater presents a multidisciplinary festival focusing on theater, dance and performance. After a free launch evening at the AXENÉO7 artist center in Gatineau, on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, eight shows will be presented at La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins (LNSGD), two per evening. It is possible to access all shows with a passport for $35. Actoral is an opportunity to discover different artists from the National Capital Region, some of whom will have received the mandate to create a unique work during the event.

Improvisation
Improv in Toronto
The Francophone Improvisation League (LIF) of Toronto will hold its next match on Tuesday at the Comedy Bar at 945 Bloor Street West. The improvisation show, directed by Pierre-Luc Barr, will see the Blues team and the Whites team face off.
