The twenty-fourth National Film Festival (FNF) of Tangier closed on Saturday, October 26, with the presentation of prizes to the lucky winners for the three categories of films in competition. Chaired by director and screenwriter Mohamed Mouftakir, the members of the jury revealed during this evening the 2024 winners in the fiction feature film category. Thus, they awarded the Grand Prize to Kamal Lazraq for his film “Les Meutes”. After it made a good impression during major international cinematographic events, “this grand prize awarded by the jury under the presidency of the great director Mohamed Mouftakir is an honor and a pride for us,” said Kamal Lazraq at the end. of this closing ceremony, while announcing that this prize also constitutes encouragement for the rest of his career.
Lasting 94 minutes, the story of this film takes place in the popular suburbs of Casablanca. This feature film shows how Hassan and his young son Issam, played respectively by the two Moroccan artists Abdellatif Masstouri and Ayoub Elaïd, try to earn their living by carrying out small-scale trafficking for the local underworld. Among the films appearing in the feature film prize list for this twenty-fourth edition, “Diary” by Mohamed Chrif Tribak won the directing prize. The production award was given to Kamal Kamal for his feature film “Que d’amour”. Thanks to his film “Déserts”, director Faouzi Bensaïdi managed to win the special jury prize. The screenplay award was awarded to Jihane El Bahhar for his feature film “Triple A”. While the prize for leading male role was given to Khalil Oubaka in this same feature film. That of the female interpretation went to Meryem Bouazzaoui in “The silence of the violins” by Saâd Chraïbi.

Regarding the fiction short film competition, the Grand Prize was awarded to “Rachid” by its director Rachida El Garani. Co-written by Eddy Martens and Sven Liegeois, the screenplay of this 18-minute film tells the story of Rachid (21 years old) who wanted to apply for a position as a dishwasher in a restaurant. A job that seemed accessible to everyone at first, but he was quickly surprised to see that his application was rejected.
While Asmae El Moudir was awarded the Grand Prize for her feature-length documentary “The Mother of All Lies”. The Moroccan filmmaker questions in this documentary why she only has one photo from her childhood, where the girl is not even her.

“TRIPLE A”, the most awarded film of the 24th edition


Triumph The 24th edition of the Tangier National Film Festival ended with the triumph of “Triple A”, directed by Jihane El Bahhar. This film was able to capture the public’s attention and win prestigious awards, thus establishing itself as one of the most notable Moroccan films of the year. “Triple A” received several notable accolades, solidifying its position among the festival’s flagship films. Actress Majdouline Idrissi won the Prize for Second Best Actress thanks to a powerful and emotional interpretation of a complex character, played with remarkable mastery. For his part, Khalil Oubaqqa won the Best Actor Award, offering a poignant performance which captured the deep human dimensions of his character, thus adding great credibility and significant impact to the film. Director Jihane El Bahhar also won the Best Screenplay Award, alongside Nadia Kamali, thanks to her ability to deliver a cinematic script combining deep drama and human experience. The film also received a special mention from the Moroccan Association of Cinema Critics, which praised its quality and the harmony of its artistic elements.
