Moana 2: the next Disney takes off with a promising first trailer

Will you answer the call of the ancestors? In any case, this is what the new trailer for the film suggests. Moana 2, unveiled this Wednesday. The sequel to the Disney animated film promises a new adventure full of challenges for Vaiana and her friends – Maui, Hei Hei and Pua -, and will meet spectators on November 27 in cinemas.

Return to the Pacific

This new animated feature film from Disney Studios will see the heroine, who has become a long-term adventurer, receive an unexpected call from her ancestors.

The young woman will then undertake a journey which will take her to the dangerous waters located at the edge of the seas of Oceania. She will be accompanied by her friends and a new crew of unlikely sailors.

This sequel to the film released in 2016 has had a complicated history. Originally planned as a series dedicated to Disney+, Moana 2 surprised the producers and managers of the streaming platform, who decided to rework the project to finally release it in theaters.

“We were impressed by the footage we saw and felt the project deserved a cinema release”said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

The undeniable popularity of the original film, which generated $687 million at the global box office upon its release and recorded more than a billion hours viewed on Disney+ last year, undoubtedly weighed in the balance.

Written and directed by David G. Derrick Jr., storyboarder on the first opus, Moana 2 sees the return of original voices to its cast, including Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson and Alan Tudyk. The music is by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina.

After the failures ofEncanto, Avalonia: the strange journey And wish, Disney absolutely must get back on the path to success. This is undoubtedly the strategy behind this sequel to a popular film, which seems to be a sure bet to bring audiences back to theaters.

This is not the only sequel in the pipeline: Zootopia 2 And Frozen 3 are also planned for the coming years. Note that a live-action version of Moana starring Dwayne Johnson is also still in preparation at Disney and is due out in 2026.
