In the age of the cell phone, we thought the walkie-talkie was obsolete, if not useless. But since its launch on April 4, 2024, the French application Ten Ten, which allows you to transform your cell phone into a talkie, is the most downloaded at the moment on iPhone and Android.

According to the numerous mentions of Ten Ten on the social network Tik Tok, the free app is especially popular among young people and has already been downloaded more than a million times since its debut.

A “dangerous” application?

The principle is simple: just download the application with a little white flash, create a profile with a pseudonym and a photo, before adding contacts. Unlike a call, a simple button allows you to communicate with your friends directly and instantly, even when the application is closed, the screen is locked, and the other person is not ready to answer. All without any distance limits, unlike the old radio transmitter whose range is limited in terms of kilometers.

Making your voice resonate in your interlocutor’s phone without them having a say is the promise of Ten Ten: “sing, shout or whisper… your friends will hear you in real time, even when the phone is locked!

On Tik Tok, we can see many videos of young people using Ten Ten to play pranks during classes and make their classmates uncomfortable. The influencer Keonii with 286K subscribers even made a video in which he talks about an application “dangerous” which could well cause problems in classrooms.

The only way to avoid being interrupted at any time by an unwanted voice on the other end of the phone is to put your cell phone in “mode”.do not disturb“, of the “put in airplane mode“, or simply turn it off.

New applications regularly appear on the market, often targeting Gen Z. More recently, “TikTok Lite” has been the talk of the town. Suspected of stimulating addictive behavior, particularly among young people, the app was in the sights of Brussels and Paris. For now, the risks associated with the use of Ten Ten remain unknown.
