Tragic past: No one wants to live in this house

What was once an opulent property in Loz Feliz, an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood, appears to be having a hard time finding an owner. This property of 464 m2 yet has five bedrooms and a large garden. However, it has only passed from hand to hand for more than 60 years. The successive owners supposedly never lived there.

And for good reason: the house, located at Glendower Place 2475, has a somewhat tragic past. It was built in 1925 by a couple made up of Harold and Florence Schumacher. Just three years later, both died within just a few weeks of each other. Two years later, author Welford Beaton and his son, Donald, moved there. But shortly after, the latter died of an infection, at only 21 years old. His father, Welford, went bankrupt a few months after his son’s death.

The house experienced a particularly tragic chapter in 1959. That year, Harold Perelson, a doctor, moved there with his wife, Lillian, and their three children, Judy, Joel and Debbie. In December of the same year, Harold killed his wife in her sleep with a hammer before attacking his daughter Judy, then 18 years old.

Awakened by the young woman’s cries, Joel nevertheless manages to keep his father at bay, allowing his two sisters to escape. Judy survives the attack and her father, Harold, commits suicide from a drug overdose. Which earned the house the nickname “Los Feliz Murder Mansion” by the media.

Subsequently, the house passed through the hands of different owners, without any of them moving in. The renovation projects never came to fruition, due to failure to obtain authorizations or lack of financing. One of the last owners was lawyer Lisa Bloom, who became known for representing Harvey Weinstein, convicted of sexual assault.

The last owner was Ephi Zlotnitsky, the head of Luxmanor Custom Home Builders. He, too, found himself in financial difficulty, which led to the property being sold at auction. For the moment, we do not know the amount of its price, but in the past, its value was around 2.4 million dollars.
