Saturday June 22 in Marsac-sur-l’Isle, as part of the Renc’Arts 2024 festival, “a folkloric soapbox descent” will be organized from 9 to 11 a.m., in the Bernardoux park, along the school complex .

At the helm of the operation, the Temporary Association of Citizen Children (Atec), nicely called Toutafon. This is a group of 18 young people from Marsac and Razac-sur-l’Isle, aged between 10 and 17 years old. These soap boxes were created using recovered and recycled materials, in partnership with local stakeholders. This Atec is accompanied by the youth referent and the digital mediator of Diapason within the Fab Lab.

Registrations until June 1st

The crates must not resemble a car, they must be decorated in a reasonable manner, have at least three wheels in contact with the ground, and, obviously, no engine on board; they must also have a steering and braking system and weigh less than 120 kg. In terms of safety, wearing a helmet, knee pads and gloves is mandatory.

Each machine (in mid-May, seven were operational… or almost) will have to make three descents (around 250 m) which will be noted on the aesthetics of the body, the team’s disguise, the presentation choreography, etc.

You can still register for Diapason until Saturday, June 1, provided you have a fund that meets the defined criteria. The limit is set at 30 vehicles, which will then be exhibited at the Jean-et-Renée-Septembre complex where the Renc’Arts festival will take place.

All the young people performed well, with the help of two volunteers who did not count their hours of work, whether on the first plans and 3D modeling, then the research of materials, the management of the call for projects, without forgetting the appearance before the administrators of the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) and the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA). Among the positive points for them: the search for ideas, curiosity, working in teams and letting go of the screens for a bit…

Such an operation requires a substantial budget of just over 4,000 euros. But CAF and MSA contributed 1,650 euros, plus contributions of 10 euros, donations, etc.
