While the Ducasse de Mons began this Wednesday, many are impatiently waiting for Sunday to join the famous fight known as “Lumeçon”. Over the years, many groups have formed to experience this unique moment of Ducasse with friends or family. This is the case of Pascal Descamps, manager of the La Bourse restaurant in Quiévrain, who comes to Mons by train every year, accompanied by a few friends… There will be between 120 and 130 this year to enjoy Mons folklore.

For around thirty years, Pascal Descamps has perpetuated the tradition by going with his friends to the Cité du Doudou. For this occasion, he made many brightly colored T-shirts to be easily recognizable. “There will be around a hundred of us going to Mons this year for Doudou. We will be mainly present in the evening and, obviously, during the fight. Our T-shirts will allow you to be seen and recognized in the crowd of visitors who come to take part in the festivities”, he says.

Usually, all these little people use the trains to get to Mons lands and thus already immerse themselves in the atmosphere as soon as they arrive on the platforms. This year, the problems that occurred on the rail will force them to change their program somewhat. “We had to find a solution to remedy this train problem. Fortunately, the TEC services were able to help us by reserving two buses for us which will take us to Saint-Ghislain station. From there, we can resume our usual journey to Mons”, explains Pascal Descamps.

Le Doudou always attracts more people from Wednesday: “We will not add additional days, we have a configuration that works”

Once there, the Quiévrainois will be able to easily find themselves at their HQ: La Clef du Hautbois. “We always meet there after fighting. It is also our base after the many musical evenings planned during the Doudou”, adds Pascal Descamps.

A family story

Often used to reaching the rope, he will try to do it again this year. The task will not be easy since the groups are more and more numerous and important. We will therefore have to work together to obtain the precious sesame: dragon hair. Among all his years of experience, Pascal obviously has many memories. The most notable ones concern his dad.

The last fights with my dad are some of my best memories. He was as fan of the Ducasse de Mons as I was and went there every year. We really shared this love and fervor for Ducasse. Unfortunately, he died five years ago. I still have very good memories of it.”, he says.

Unforgettable memories that accompany him every year when he comes to the Cité du Doudou. Like many Montois and visitors from the four corners of the world, he will live fully to the rhythm of Ducasse for a week. Everyone hopes that the good Lord will be from Montois and will therefore ensure that the weather is good.
