Goodbye Freddie, see you soon! The Montreux statue of the legendary leader of the group Queen will breathe new air over the coming months. The rock legend should not be too disoriented, however, because it will be installed in the Jardins de la Rouvenaz, a few meters from its current location. During this little trip, Freddie Mercury will leave his place to other music stars, like Zucchero, Deep Purple or Sting, since it is due to the installation of the main stage of the Montreux Jazz Festival that this relocation was orchestrated. A necessary adaptation, in the context of the renovation of 2m2c, the usual venue for the festival.

The relocation of the statue will take place in the coming days, “before the start of assembly scheduled for May 27,” indicates Eduardo Mendez, press manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival. The work will remain accessible to the public until the start of the festivities. Then, during the festival, from July 5 to 20, access “will be restricted to Scène du Lac ticket holders from 6 p.m. to midnight,” explains Eduardo Mendez. And to specify: “The statue will be returned to its location as soon as the dismantling is completed.”

Freddie Mercury discovered Montreux in 1978, during a visit to a recording studio in the city. A studio, renowned for the quality of its facilities, which pleased Queen so much that the group bought it in 1979. The group’s last six albums were recorded there. During this entire period, which extended until the singer’s death in 1991, Freddie Mercury lived between the Vaudois city and London. A love story between the musician and Montreux completed in 1996, with the inauguration of the famous statue, notably in the presence of the icon’s parents as well as former members of Queen.
