Geneva/New York, May 21 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is proud to announce the appointment of renowned television and film actress and activist America Ferrera as its new Global Goodwill Ambassador.

America Ferrera is a famous, Academy Award-nominated, Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award-winning actress, director, and producer. She is known for her many iconic television and film roles, including Ugly Betty, Ana (Real Women Have Curves), Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Superstore and, most recently, the film Barbie phenomenon, for which she was nominated for the Oscars for the first time.

“I am extremely honored to be entrusted with the role of IOM Global Goodwill Ambassador,” said America Ferrera. “I am very excited to continue to share stories and better, safer solutions for global migration. »

“Migration is a subject that has always been close to my heart. As an activist, I have spent years listening and caring about the experiences and struggles of migrants, and have had the privilege of seeing the value they bring while having a happy and healthy life for them. themselves and their families. This issue affects me personally, because I am the daughter of Honduran immigrants to the United States and my story is one of migration,” she added.

As Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Ferrera intends to continue speaking out on issues she has addressed in the past, including migration, women’s rights, while serving as a spokesperson for underrepresented voices and engaging with communities.

America Ferrera joins Olympic champion and long-distance runner Sir Mo Farah as IOM’s first-ever Global Goodwill Ambassador, alongside nine regional and national Goodwill Ambassadors.
