The organizers had to cancel two days of the festival out of three due to the weather. Despite the disappointment, the festival-goers we met intend to return next year.

Lots of bad news for the Papillons de nuit festival. The organizers were forced to cancel the third and final day this Sunday, May 19, due to bad weather.

The concerts planned the day before had already been unable to take place due to the weather. On site, torrents of mud made the site grounds and parking lot impassable.

“A difficult but fair decision”, confide the organizers, who have decided to prioritize “the safety of the public and the teams”. The associative festival does not hide the fact that the teams are “very affected”.

“We were happy to welcome nearly 100,000 festival-goers to Saint-Laurent-de-Cuves for this 22nd edition, but the work and efforts of a whole year were wiped out in a few hours,” regret the organizers.

It was therefore slightly disappointed festival-goers who left the site in the afternoon. “It’s bad luck, everyone still has a smile despite everything, but it’s still a shame for the festival,” reacts one of them at the microphone of BFM Normandie.

“Let them keep the money from the passes, so that it continues”

After the bad news was announced, some participants tried to see the bright side of things: “it will be aperitif, aperitif, aperitif, suddenly”, said one of them. Because of the water, the field is full of mud, and one participant’s car got stuck in the mud. “We won’t leave until tomorrow, we’re waiting for the tractor.”

Organizers announced that refunds would be offered in the coming days. But some are not keen on it and prefer to financially support the associative festival. “Me, personally, I don’t care, if they keep the money from the passes, so that it continues for years and years,” says a festival-goer, a beer in hand.

“We’ll come back next year”

Despite this shortened 2024 edition, those we interviewed assure that they will return. “We can’t stop the Butterflies like that,” proclaims one of them. “I’ve been coming for 10 years and we’ll come back next year,” promises another.

The 23rd edition will be held on June 6, 7 and 8, 2025. The ROC en Baie association, which organizes the festival, promises to continue with “enthusiasm” and “unfailing energy”.

BFM Normandie is a partner of the 22nd edition of the Papillons de Nuit festival.
