Fred Guichen started by having a new accordion made. A diatonic made to measure by Benoît Le Toumelin for one of the masters of this instrument which is both simple and subtle, tender and complex.
A custom accordion
Between the luthier and the musician a bond was born.
“Benoit made me a very beautiful instrument, I wanted to compose new pieces to highlight it.”
For 40 years
Already almost 40 years old, the accordionist distills his melodies on stage, on record and in different groups. Fred Guichen is one of the figures of Breton music for all these years. Since his debut with the famous group The Young in the 90s untilHeritage of the Celtsthe accompaniment of Since and numerous productions with his brother and solo.
“I’m taking my time”
Installed in Beg Léguer in Lannion for several years, he has been working at his own pace on new creations which could give rise to a new album.
“I like to take my time. I’ve only made three solo records in twenty years. I hope that perhaps with my new compositions we will arrive at an album.”
« What’s next for Rosalie » constitutes one of the first pieces offered to the public. Fred Guichen shot a clip with Servane Lenotte directing near Brasparts.
A series of compositions
“The composition was born from the death of a friend. It starts slowly then goes into a waltz before a circus circle. From melancholy to dance to find and preserve the image of this missing being.”
A wind of melancholy and a dose of optimism.
A stone house, wooden furniture, a refined interior and the accordionist in the center on a stool. A simple and warm image reflecting the image of the musician.
Fred Guichen continues his artistic path. The compositions and ideas are there. Quite a program.
