Notice to lovers of opera and lyrical music! The Île-de-France National Orchestra and the Radio France Choir perform one of the masterpieces of sacred music under the direction of Case Scaglione.

Along with the Requiem, it is undoubtedly Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s most impressive sacred work.

A little history
The Austrian composer, just freed from the Archbishop of Salzburg, Colloredo, begins writing the Mass in C for Vienna. But above all it is a promise, a wish. In order to obtain the healing of the one who stole his heart, while suffering, Mozart undertakes to compose a mass of thanksgiving. He dedicates to Constance Weber, singer with a legendary voice, this grandiose work with an extraordinary vocal score written for her, an absolutely sublime soprano part, which will delicately perch in the most incredible high notes.

An artwork masterful strongly inspired by the style of the great masters
THE “Gloria” by Mozart is a reminiscence of the “Alleluia” of Messiah by Handel with the same incredible density like a cathedral of sound where each note contributes to spiritual elevation. Great contrasts, a virtuoso choir, a rhythmic orchestra: everything contributes to creating an impression of solemn and sensitive grandeur. While the ” Who tollis » is reminiscent of “ Crucifixus ” of the Mass in B by Bach.

Although unfinished, the Mass in C is of rare power of expression, of overwhelming dramatic force and remains one of the major pieces of Mozart’s repertoire.
