Resuming his action saga with crazy racing cars in the dust, George Miller offers the fabulous “Fury Road” a gleaming and worthy sequel, with Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role.

The memory is vivid, and for good reason (because the film invites viewings and rewatches, in color or in black and white) of the Fury Road of 2015, a blockbuster anomaly sharp as an arrow and with a narrative curve so refined that it seemed to bring action cinema back to its origins: action = moving image. An outward chase, a return chase, and a universe with an inordinate depth of field, constructed without us realizing it, the eyes magnetized to the parade of vehicles with their insane anatomy and the body driven by their momentum. The baroque Furiosaresolutely positioned in a mirror position, is a very different film, George Miller taking note that a replica of this fourth Mad Max that he had conceived as a masterpiece of cinematic companionship would be nonsense, and that the lurch is essential.
