The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival begins this Tuesday (May 14) at the Palais des Festivals and this year, no less than six Breton films were selected, proof that Breton audiovisual production is doing better than ever. The film by Christophe Honoré “Marcello Mio”, is among the films in competition for the Palme d’Or! This is the 16th feature film by the Breton director, native of Carhaix, and known in particular for “The Beloved” or “Please, love and run fast.”

The story of a woman called Chiara. Actress and daughter of Marcello Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve… she tells herself that she should rather live her father’s life. She dresses like him, talks like him, breathes like him and she does it with such force that the others around her end up believing it and start calling him “Marcello.”

The Brittany region in support

Five films received financial aid from the Region: “Maria” by Jessica Palud. Filmed partly in Rennes and Dinard, it will be presented in the Cannes Première selection. Claude Barras offers “Sauvages”, an animated film for young and old, produced in a Breton studio. It is in the Special Session category. Another animated film: “Slocum et moi” by Jean-François Laguionie. Produced by JPL Films, it will be presented at the Cinéma de la Plage. There is also “Fantômes” by Jonathan Millet, which will be screened at the opening of Critics’ Week. This feature film was produced by the also Breton company Films Grand Huit, which produced Mi Bestia by Camila Beltrán. This film will have its world premiere in the ACID Cannes 2024 Selection (Association of Independent Cinema for its Diffusion).
