“He has no consideration for women”: Isild Le Besco denounces Emmanuel Macron’s recent comments on Gérard Depardieu

The actress and director Isild Le Besco testifies in her book “Dire Vrai” to sexual predation in the world of cinema. Invited by BFM, she denounced Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements on Gérard Depardieu.

“There is no complacency on my part. Just a desire to respect the presumption of innocence…”, declared the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron about Gérard Depardieu, during an interview with the magazine She last May 8.

The head of state then defended himself from any “complacency” towards the actor and had claimed not to have “never defended an aggressor against victims”.

Gérard Depardieu will be tried in October 2024 in Paris for sexual assault on two women during filming in 2021. He has also been indicted since 2020 for rape and sexual assault on a young actress, Charlotte Arnould. Several other complaints have been filed against the 75-year-old actor. The latter denies the facts with which he is accused.

“Only words”

“It’s just wordsreacted Isild Le Besco on BFM regarding the comments of the President of the Republic. Emmanuel Macron has probably never experienced difficult things for him to lie to this extent to himself and to all of France. […] He has no consideration.”

“When we see (that) a woman (raped) is not considered, that justice dismisses this, […] I find it absolutely crazy. (Emmanuel Macron) despises women to the core. Otherwise, he would have another speech”she added on the set of the continuous news channel on May 12.

His relationship with Benoît Jacquot

In his book Say true (Denoël editions), Isild Le Besco tells his relationship with director Benoît Jacquot, which began on the set of the film Sade when she was 16 and he was 52.

The actress confides that she is not ready to file a complaint against the director, who she nevertheless believes has “raped”. “I don’t want to confront myself again with these dusty institutions, designed and governed by men. It’s already so trying to write. To name. To face one’s ills.” she explained during an interview with Parisian in February.
