“The Algerian singer Hasna El Bacharia, famous interpreter of the diwane nicknamed “the Rocker of the desert”, died Wednesday 1er May in Béchar at the age of 74 ». The announcement was made by the Algerian agency almost a week ago.

The artist who has always claimed his Moroccan origins would surely have turned in his grave. My father, Moroccan, came to settle (in the Béchar region, editor’s note) around the age of 20 with my grandfather. They both hosted Diwanes (musical and spiritual meetings, editor’s note). They were from Arfoud, in the south of Morocco, my mother is from Béchar. I heard my father playing the guembri all the time”, she told RFI Musique in 2002, upon the release of her first album.

“I am happy with the women who play the guembri. In Béchar, there are none. In Algeria, there is none. In Morocco, there are »certified Hasna El Bacharia on TV5 Monde no later than the beginning of February 2024, during a tour in Europe.

Like all Bécharis, Hasna, the first woman to play the guembri and the looted guitar in Béchar, knew how to keep her Moroccan accent until her last breath.

But this is not how a neighbor from the east sees it, a past champion in the usurpation of the identity and heritage of Moroccans.

Pathetic!
