Hollywood never stops surprising us. This famous actor is going to play Jesus in a horror film.

It may not happen every day, but there are still a few feature films about Jesus! The best known of all is certainly The Passion of the Christ (2004), directed by Mel Gibson – who was notable in his time for his particularly explicit images. But with The Carpenter’s Son (literally “the son of the carpenter”, Joseph’s profession), Christ could offer us more hemoglobin… This is a horror film starring Nicolas Cage as Jesus.

Scare me, Jesus

It’s not a joke… As the site reports Deadline, Lotfy Nathan (Harka) is preparing a horror film about Christ with the star of Benjamin Gates in the leading role and FKA Twigs, Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub in the rest of the cast. According to the official synopsis, the project tells the “dark story of a family hiding in Roman Egypt”. The son, known only as ‘Boy,’ is pushed into doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his protector – the carpenter – revealing inherent powers and a natural and destiny. divine”.

An award-winning director

For his script, Nathan was inspired by the Gospel of Thomas dating from the 2nd century AD, which relates the childhood of Jesus. In addition to the documentary 12 O’Clock Boys, which focuses on motocross enthusiasts in Baltimore, the filmmaker stood out for his first feature film, Harka, released two years ago… The film takes place in Tunisia and tells the story of a young man who, in a society plagued by corruption, must himself follow this path to survive. Everything is inspired by Mohamed Bouazizi, whose suicide by self-immolation in December 2010 was the starting point of the Tunisian revolution and more generally of the Arab Spring. Harka was part of the Un certain regard selection at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival where Adam Bessa, the main character, won the award for best performance! The Carpenter’s Son will therefore be his second film at the cinema.
