Governor General’s Literary Awards: “File Complaint”, by Léa Clermont-Dion, among the finalists

Léa Clermont-Dion (File a complaint) and Virginie Fortin (Dare ethical humor) were both listed on Tuesday among the finalists for the prestigious Governor General’s Literary Awards with their respective essays.

They will be measured in particular against the works of Florence-Agathe Dubé-Moreau (Offside: cultural and feminist chronicle on the professional sports industry), Stanley Péan (Satin black) and Geneviève Boudreau (One bee is enough: observation notebook of an urban garden) in the GG Books Essays category.

Quebec author Steve Poutré, for his part, won a nomination with his first novel, Raw milkin the Novels and Short Stories category. Matthew Rolland (big people), Emmanuelle Pierrot (The version that interests no one), Louis-Daniel Godin (The count is good) and Pascale Beauregard (Mute) are also in this category.

At the end of a rigorous process, the evaluation committees formed by the Arts Council selected 70 books published in Canada in the past year, divided into seven categories intended for readers of all ages and in both official languages.

The winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $25,000. The publishing houses of the winning books will receive a promotional grant of $3,000.

Founded in 1936, the Governor General’s Literary Awards are among the oldest and most prestigious literary distinctions awarded in Canada, with annual prizes totaling $450,000.

The 14 winning books will be announced on November 13, 2024.
