In Palavas-les-Flots, the Humanlab Saint-Pierre association is organizing the second edition of the Fabrikarium. From May 14 to 16, engineers will make functional prototypes to help children with disabilities. A column in partnership with ToulÉco Montpellier.

For three days, the Humanlab Saint-Pierre association is organizing the second edition of the Fabrikarium in Palavas-les-Flots. It is the first to focus on the needs of children. From May 14 to 16, engineers, handymen and caregivers come together with one goal: to change the lives of people with disabilities by developing innovative solutions for their daily lives. At the head of the organization, Benoit Sijobert, holder of a doctorate in engineering for rehabilitation and director of the association.

Four projects for children aged 8 to 15

This year, the fabrikarium is once again focusing on four projects for children and adolescents living in the region. Engineers from all over France travel for this event.

In teams, they will think about solutions, in particular to help little Rime, who suffers from cerebral palsy. You need to be able to help him move around more easily with his walker. Then, give Antoine, who suffers from myopathy, the opportunity to play ball with his assistance dog. It will therefore be a question of inventing a system adapted to his lack of mobility and strength. Then, allow Lina, a non-communicating teenager with multiple disabilities, to rock in her chair without risking overturning it. Finally, design a simple and autonomous device to open the doors when a wheelchair arrives.

If the event is not open to the public, all research will be posted online on their Wikilab platform. The prototype handover ceremony is open to all. Meet at 5 p.m., 3 Rue Ginies Mares in Palavas-les-Flots.
