The “new” Caravaggio exhibited in Madrid

Paint A painting by Caravaggio which was almost sold at auction with a asking price of 1,500 euros in 2021 before being attributed to the great Italian master will be exhibited at the Prado Museum, in Madrid, from May 28 until October. It was the Spanish institution that sounded the alarm, invoking “sufficient documented and stylistic evidence” to consider that the work was by the Italian painter. This oil on canvas entitled “Ecce Homo”, which represents Christ with his head surrounded by a crown of thorns, is one of sixty paintings in the world attributed to the Italian master, specialist in chiaroscuro (1571-1610).

Very rare Calders to see in Lugano

ExposureWe would almost miss the delicate mobile in three parts. Silent and almost transparent, it spins in the air, as if it were part of the element it seems to touch. Was it a fish that the artist had in mind when he wove the threads? Or a chalice? The Swiss Art Museum (Masi) in Lugano is devoting a vast exhibition to the American artist Alexander Calder from Saturday. Until October, “Calder. Sculpting Time” presents to the public several works that have never before been shown in Europe, such as the “sisterpiece” (the sister piece) designed for the main staircase of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and exhibited that only once in Los Angeles. The exhibition focuses on the years 1931 to 1960 and features more than 30 works.

Julian Charrière on the facade in Basel

Public artThe Morgian visual artist who took the suffering planet Earth as his artistic battlefield responded to the call from the Beyeler Foundation and the Globus brand to create an immense mural for his Basel brand. From June 8 and until October 6, the work of Julian Charrière hung on the facade of the building under renovation will bridge the gap between the city of Basel and a forest in the western Andes in Ecuador, like a real-time bridge between our reality and that of a rich biodiversity under threat. Last year, it was the Vaudoise from Basel Claudia Comte who worked on this space made available during the work on the Marktplatz.

Florence Millioud joined the cultural section in 2011 out of a passion for people of culture, after having covered local politics and economics since 1994. An art historian, she collaborates in the writing of exhibition catalogs and monographic works on artists.More informations
