Budding filmmakers awarded prizes at the 3rd Medfilm Festival Morocco

Three short films made by young students from the Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Cinema Professions (ISMAC) were awarded the Medfilm Festival Morocco prize for young cinema talents.

This award, initiated as part of the third edition of the Medfilm Morocco festival held under the theme Mediterranean, a sea of ​​cinema, is the result of a collaboration with ISMAC and the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat.

It consists, according to the festival organizers, of three grants of 2,500, 1,500 and 1,000 euros. The winner of the first prize will participate in the 30th edition of the MedFilm Festival in Rome, as part of the Methexis project.

Thus, the first prize went to the student Anas Bouzammour for his documentary film “Living” which tells the story of a mother and her two children who took up residence in a remote cemetery, but nevertheless knew how to create their own happiness in this unusual place. The second prize was awarded to Ibrahim Benjaber for his film “A day or part of the day”, while the third prize was awarded to Soufien Salamat for the film “Soul Balance”.

The three cinematographic works were selected from six short films by a jury composed of the Italian-Tunisian director of photography Tarek Ben Abdallah, and the two Italian directors Esmeralda Calabria and Gianfranco Pannone. As part of the celebrations for its third edition, the MedFilm Festival will stop from October 2 to 5 at the Tangier Cinematheque.

Organized by the Italian Embassy in Morocco, the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat and the Methexis Onlus Association, in collaboration with the Hiba Foundation, Renaissance Cinema of Rabat, the Tangier Cinematheque and ISMAC, this event, dedicated at the best of Euro-Mediterranean cinema, is marked by film screenings, presentations, masterclasses and shows.
