In Brest, Alain Morhan hands over to Mathieu Guri as director of the Finistère committee of the League against Cancer

On Tuesday September 24, 2024, in the premises of the Finistère committee of the League against Cancer, in , Mathieu Guri, 41 years old on the same day, officially took charge of the place. He succeeds Alain Morhan, who will retire at the end of September.

“I moved into the management chair in March 2015. Before that, I had a first career in Catholic education in Morbihan until 2013,” remembers Alain Morhan. Then, I did a master’s degree in health economics at -Dauphine University. I chose to return to the west of for family reasons. I applied for an offer from the League Against Cancer and I was lucky enough to be recruited.”

Nine years at the helm

During these nine years as director, Alain Morhan, with the help and support of Michel Robaszciewicz, president of the Finistère committee of the League Against Cancer, brought to fruition numerous projects. Thus, faced with territorial inequality, he re-established the League where it was not very present, that is to say in Central and South Finistère. Between 2017 and 2022, the branches of Quimperlé, Carhaix, Crozon and -Ville were added to those existing in Brest, Quimper-l’Hôpital and Morlaix.

“Allow everyone to have supportive care”

“We had to structure the teams. We recruited social representatives at the seven branches to raise awareness of the League and help people with cancer who are in need. The objective was to allow all people to have supportive care, regardless of where they live, explains Alain Morhan. This care, non-medical and provided outside the hospital, is part of the care pathway for a cancer patient. On the research side, we have refocused and rebalanced the allocations. We have also set up an entire prevention service.”

Arriving in 2018, Mathieu Guri served as head of the health prevention center at the League and coordinator of health prevention for the Brittany region.
