A district of Marseille voted “the coolest in the world”

With its dead ends and alleys covered in graffiti, this district of the Phocaean city has been propelled to the top of the ranking Time Out.

When you travel, it gives you an immense feeling of satisfaction. Arrive at the bend of a street and come across a neighborhood with a special atmosphere. Restaurants with original decoration, bars in which you can meet locals, atypical stores… So many places that reflect the best of a city. This is the whole purpose of the ranking produced by the media Time Out who compiled the list of “38 coolest neighborhoods in the world”. These areas, far from the beaten track, stand out in particular “based on criteria such as food, drink, arts, culture, street life, community and one-of-a-kind local flavor”details Time Out.

And it is the Notre-Dame-du-Mont district, in the 6th arrondissement of , which climbs to the top of the ranking, in first place. The latter owes its name to the church of the same name. It turns out to be full of charm, with its colorful dead ends and alleys covered with graffiti. Not to mention its spiral staircases which lead to Cours Julien. “Formerly known as the artists’ quarter, [il] today has the jovial and relaxed atmosphere of a local market”we can read. Enough to dethrone another district of the Marseille city, Cours Julien, noticed by the magazine in previous years.

A distinguished Parisian neighborhood

Another “Frenchie” stands out: Belleville, in 20th position. Located in the 20th arrondissement of , the latter, marked by several waves of immigration, bears witness to the rich past of the capital. Young and dynamic, it is bordered by numerous restaurants, particularly Asian, and lively terraces. It is also characterized by its immense popular market and its prolific artistic life.

Also in the Top 5: Mers Sultan, located just south of downtown Casablanca, with its vibrant artistic life, then Pererenan, in Bali (Indonesia). Passing tourists will be able to discover pristine beaches and cafes with a warm atmosphere. Coming in fourth place, Seongsu-dong, which could be described as “South Korean Brooklyn”, then in fifth place, Créneaux, in the famous “arty” city of Portland in the United States. The neighborhood reveals some of the most charming aspects, with its pretty craftsmen’s houses and flowery gardens.
