In the columns of the JDD, Catherine Deneuve confided in us about her relationship with digital technology and the desacralization of stars in .

Catherine Deneuve is an icon of French cinema. The 80-year-old actress has worked with great directors and actors throughout her career. She has enchanted moviegoers in blockbuster movies which remain etched in collective memories. Moreover, Catherine Deneuve will preside over the 50th César ceremony on February 28, at the Olympia in , the organizers announced on Monday. “Who better than an extraordinary actress to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Césars?” assured in a joint press release the Académie des César and the television channel Canal+, which broadcasts them in the clear. An honor for the one who will replace Valérie Lemercier as president of the ceremony.

“There are no more stars in France”

Although Catherine Deneuve is deeply attached to France, she is sometimes critical of the country where she was born. According to her, certain developments have contributed to a certain desacralization of celebrity in FranceIn the columns of the JDD in 2015, she drew up a negative assessment by explaining that the stars no longer existed: “There are no more stars in France. A star is someone who has to show himself little and stay in the reserve“, she explained.

The actress thus deplored the arrival of technology which has changed the relationship with notoriety: “With the introduction of digital, there is an intrusion of everything, everywhere, all the time. We see a lot of very famous people, who have millions of followers and who have done absolutely nothing,” she let go.

Catherine Deneuve opens up about technology

Besides the topic of stars, Chiara Mastroianni’s mother also gave his opinion on technology. While she has decided to live with the times, she imposes some limits on herself to protect herself. Indeed, she does not want to use her cell phone all the time: “I find the laptop very practical. I turn it off when necessary.I don’t go to the table with my phone on me. It’s great to be able to take pictures, but I hate selfies, taking pictures of yourself all the time, talking to yourself via FaceTime… It trivializes everything. And this idea that we’re watching ourselves do things and not experiencing them, it’s terrible,” she explained to our colleagues.

The actress’s criticism of today’s society

The sister of the late Françoise Dorléac felt that people are now missing out on their lives. Indeed, they are generally focused on the phone and forget to enjoy the simple moments of everyday life. A situation that deeply annoys the actress: “And this idea that we are watching ourselves do things and not living them, “It’s terrible”, thus deplored Catherine Deneuve.

Through her criticism, Catherine Deneuve not only expresses nostalgia, but also a questioning of the future of culture and celebrity in France. She thus defends a vision where the balance between private and public life is maintained. A balance that is very difficult to find, especially since the advent of digital technology!
