The legendary film festival returns to Lyon for a 16th edition from Saturday 12 to Sunday 20 October 2024.

After revealing the name of the artist who will receive the 2024 Lumière Prize, namely the French Isabelle Huppertthe unmissable event has published its program and opened its ticket office.

To help you see things more clearly, we have compiled a list of the highlights of the Light Festival and expected guests.

Events not to be missed

  • The opening night The festival will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 6 p.m. at the Halle Tony Garnier. “This year will be an opportunity to celebrate the filmmaker Costa-Gavras, guest of honor at the opening,” the event presents. The film “Un Revenant” by Christian-Jaque will be screened.
  • On Sunday, October 13 at 3 p.m., we will find the family session at the Halle Tony Garnier with the film “The 12 Tasks of Asterix”.
  • A film concert with the National Orchestra of Lyon will be offered on Thursday, October 17 at 8 p.m. at the Auditorium de Lyon. One of the most enigmatic films in history, “Vampyr” directed by Danish filmmaker Carl T. Dreyer, will be shown in its recently restored version.
  • Friday, October 18 at 3 p.m. at the Théâtre des Célestins will be the opportunity to make the exceptional meeting with Isabelle Huppert, Lumière Prize 2024, during a masterclass. The prize will be awarded to him in the evening during a ceremony at the Congress Center in the presence of many guests, followed by the screening of one of his films.
  • Another cine-concert will take place on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at the Auditorium de Lyon with the film “Pêcheur d’Islande” by Jacques de Baroncelli, accompanied by the organ.
  • The legendary cinema night at the Halle Tony Garnier will take place on Saturday, October 19 at 8:30 p.m. Hosted by director Alexandre Aja, the evening “Journey to the End of Horror” will highlight 4 great horror films that have changed the history of the genre. “Hereditary” by Ari Aster, “The Hills Have Eyes” by Alexandre Aja, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” by Wes Craven and “The Exorcist – Director’s Cut” by William Friedkin.
  • On Sunday October 20, it’s time for the closing session at 3 p.m. at the Halle Tony Garnier. The program is yet to come for this event.

Guest movie stars

The director and producer Xavier Dolan will be in Lyon to present a book “bringing together a superb collection of unpublished photos” for the 10th anniversary of the film Mommy. He will give a masterclass on Sunday, October 13 at the Pathé Bellecour and will be part of an “exceptional” evening at the Auditorium de Lyon on Monday, October 14.

The actress and singer Vanessa Paradis will also give a masterclass on the same day as Xavier Dolan. Other movie stars will be present and will come to meet the public over the days: Justine Triet, Bénicio Del Toro, Giuseppe Tornatore, Icíar Bollaín, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Alexandre Aja…

Some will present films, documentaries and series such as Alfonso Cuarón, Claude Lelouch, Monica Bellucci, Carmen Chaplin, Walter Murch and Vincent Lindon.
