On Monday, September 16, 2024, the creation of the Maison du souvenir was on the agenda of the municipal council of Saint-Aignan of Grand Lieu (-Atlantique).

Welcoming the deceased’s loved ones

The memorial house is intended to accommodate the relatives of the deceased following funeral ceremonies.

“The municipal council approved the acquisition of a property eligible for the right of abandonment, in order to establish this House of Remembrance there, indicated Mayor Jean-Claude Lemasson.

The gatherings are currently taking place in the hall of one of the municipal halls, which is not adapted to the situation.

A house in the village

It is planned to rehabilitate premises, with a total floor area of ​​180 m2, on a plot of 498 m2rue des Frères Rousseau.

The target capacity is 40 to 50 people.

It is also planned to redevelop the area around the cemetery, extend the parking spaces, widen the current access road by integrating a gentle path, accessible to people with reduced mobility.

End of work January 2026

The total amount for the acquisition of the property, after a new estimate, the project management and the work in its entirety, is estimated at €966,207 including tax.

The exterior development work will begin in January for delivery in July. The completion of the premises work is scheduled for January 2026.
