The 2024 Film Festival has just revealed the 8 projects of its Immersive Competition which encompasses collective virtual reality installations, mixed reality experiences and video mapping and holographic works.

The XR work THE ROAMING supported by the Film Fund Luxembourg is part of this competition. This immersive collective virtual reality experience is co-produced in Luxembourg by the company Wild Fang Films (Hélène Walland and Christian Neuman) with and Canada. It is a creation by Mathieu Pradat that transports participants into a shared virtual environment where they can interact with each other and their surroundings, providing an engaging experience challenging the limits of virtual reality.

All the work on the character movements using motion capture was carried out with Luxembourg actresses Klein and Marianne Bourg. The entire animation part of the project was carried out in the Zeilt Productions studios in Foetz.

The Immersive Competition of the Cannes Film Festival is a new competition dedicated to immersive works, the first edition of which will be held from May 15 to 24, 2024 at the Cannes Cineum and the Université Côte d’Azur on the Georges Méliès campus. The Prize for best immersive work will be awarded during a closing ceremony on May 23.

Six non-competitive works complete this immersive selection. These explore the evolution of the medium and establish parallels between virtual reality, virtual production, cinema and collective storytelling. The XR work MISSING PICTURES is co-produced in Luxembourg by Wild Fang Films (Christian Neuman and Hélène Walland) with France, the Kingdom and Taiwan and the support of Film Fund Luxembourg. It was produced by Clément Deneux and was selected out of competition.
