“At first, the channels didn’t want it”: why M6 is betting on a “Golden Bachelor”

M6 launches in prime time Wednesday September 18, the “Golden Bachelor”. Twenty years after the original version, which brought together a handsome young bachelor and 20 women looking for love, the Bachelor has improved and is now sixty years old. The Golden Bachelor is Landry, a widowed father of three, who is ready to find love again among 20 hand-picked candidates. “I lived this experience fullyhe said. I didn’t ask myself any questions and I found it to be an exceptional and fantastic experience.”

The President of Warner Bros. International Television ProductionBruno Henriquet does not hide the fact that it was complicated to bring this program up to date. “The networks were tight-lipped, saying: ‘It’s not in fashion anymore.’ At first, the networks didn’t want it.”. This was without taking into account the immense success of the American version of “The Golden Bachelor”, broadcast in September 2023 on ABC. “There was initially a bit of sniggering from the networks when it was announced in the United States, he explains. In fact, the program is so strong that it has almost become a social phenomenon by bringing this age group back to the forefront and that completely changes the paradigm.”

Landry was spotted on a dating site, experiences that weren’t always positive, according to him. When the production team offered him not to be the Golden Bachelor, but to participate in a show, he let himself be tempted. Bruno Henriquet confides that he and his teams were really touched by his story and had “want to introduce Landry to and perhaps help him find love.”

Candidates with different profiles

To allow Landry to find his other half, it was necessary to find the “bachelorettes” whose profiles matched. “We had thousands and thousands of requests”says Bruno Henriquet. The selection was done meticulously with real responsibility. “We found 20 beautiful, attractive, funny women. We want to love them”he said.

The Golden Bachelor and his suitors will therefore discover each other on Wednesday, September 18. Bruno Henriquet, without saying too much, confides that there was a fairly obvious chemistry, “They all went a little crazy about him”. Landry, for his part, remains stoic when we try to find out whether or not he found the rare pearl at the last rose ceremony.
