Buckingham Palace has finally wished Prince Harry a happy birthday after three years of silence.
This weekend, Buckingham Palace shared a photo of Prince Harry to wish him a happy birthday. The second son of King Charles III had not been entitled to this kind of message since 2020. But the chosen photo betrays a certain position on the part of the royal family.
In the photo, Prince Harry appears smiling, sitting behind a table. The photo was taken in July 2018, while he was on an official visit to Dublin. At that time, Harry was still considered a working member of the British royal family. In the photo, he was sitting next to Meghan Markle but visibly, the photo has been cropped.
For the British press, this choice is not insignificant. A journalist from Times imagine that it must have been very difficult to make a selection. Indeed, it would have been inappropriate for Buckingham Palace to take a more recent photo of Prince Harry when he made visits with Meghan Markle to Nigeria or Colombia. If these visits had the appearance of official outings as if they were active members of the royal family, this was not the case. This selection could have passed for a validation of these outings. The other good photos of Prince Harry are mainly those where he promotes his productions on Netflix.
It is also difficult to take a photo of him with his father or his brother because the relationship between them is sometimes tense and meetings are rare.
Finally, the puzzle was solved with this old photo that is now six years old. For their part, the Prince and Princess of Wales simply reposted the photo wishing Prince Harry a happy birthday after a few hours of hesitation and without any more warmth in the message.
