A family of five from Lower Austria experienced a nightmare while on vacation in Egypt. They had booked a stay in a five-star hotel, but found themselves facing a reality very different from that described in the catalog.

As soon as they arrived at the hotel, the family encountered problems. They had to wait for hours outside their room before they could open it. The hotel did not meet their expectations at all and was in an advanced state of neglect.

The family had to deal with empty swimming pools, broken tiles, exposed cables and dilapidated rooms. One of the children even injured himself on broken tiles. Only two of the hotel’s seven pools were full. Finally, the air conditioning was faulty and there was no daycare for German-speaking children.

The family paid 4,370 euros (around 4,200 francs) for this ten-day stay which turned out to be a disaster.

“He wanted to give us a ridiculous amount of money”

Disappointed and outraged, the family decided to file a complaint against the tour operator. “As soon as we returned, we reported all the problems in writing to the tour operator, but he wanted to pass on a ridiculous amount of money to us,” explains the father of the family in an interview with “Heute”.

The tour operator simply responded that there had been “no similar complaints during the same period.” He also tried to compensate for the inconvenience by giving the family a fruit basket and bracelets.

Despite this disastrous experience, the family has hope that their case will succeed. According to a lawyer, she has a good chance of obtaining compensation. “There are enough vacationers who have encountered similar problems,” says the father in Heute.
