Harry Potter is back on screens, to the delight of its fans. Warner Bros announced over a year ago that the stories of the seven books written by JK Rowling will become a TV series for a decade. And the casting to find Harry, Hermione and Ron is finally open!

Dear parents, put away your camcorders — yes, we know this remark sounds very 90s: the call for applications is for children aged 9 to 11 in April 2025 who… reside in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“We are committed to an inclusive and diverse cast. For each role, please apply regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation – unless otherwise specified,” the casting announcement reads.

In 2015, the selection of actors for the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” had adopted the same approach. Thus, Harry was red-haired, while Ron was not and Hermione was black. Choices that had caused debate. JK Rowling had then accused of “racism” those who could not bear to see Noma Dumezweni in the role of the character played until then by Emma Watson.

To be considered for the TV series, applicants must submit two short videos recorded by themselves, including a short poem or story, but nothing from “Harry Potter.” “Please use your own accent,” it says.

The casting call indicates that the series will film in the UK in 2025-2026. It will run for seven seasons and is expected to be released in 2026. Francesca Gardiner, who produced “Succession,” “His Dark Materials” and “Killing Eve,” will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
