In the introduction to his course, Benoît Huou was moved by the situation in Gaza. “The scientific review The Lancet estimates the number of Palestinian deaths at nearly 200,000 at the beginning of July […]Everyone goes through it, from children to the elderly. […]”It’s dramatic,” the mathematics teacher commented to students at the Toulouse School of Economics.
His comments were relayed on X by the Sword of Salomon account, which denounced “an Israeli diatribe riddled with disinformation” by publishing a voice recording of the professor’s intervention.
Suspended for failing “in his obligation of reserve”
Following this intervention by the 35-year-old teacher, the school responded by publishing a press release on Wednesday. The Toulouse School of Economics is suspending this contract professor for “a period of four months”, after he failed “in his obligation of confidentiality”.
“TSE is an open place for sharing knowledge in quantitative social sciences. Its management recalls the obligation of neutrality and reserve of public agents”, also indicates the press release, while recalling that the institution “will not take a political position and wishes to fight against any form of incitement(…) - 20minutes
