How Sciences Po plans to “better train” its students

EDUCATION – Courses on freedom of expression, anti-discrimination measures… The establishment has revised its programs following the controversies linked to the mobilizations of pro-Palestinian students

The institution surely wants to turn the page on a year marked by controversies related to the mobilizations of pro-Palestinian students. On Wednesday, Sciences Po Paris presented several new features for the new school year with the aim of improving dialogue and knowledge among students.

“The year was complicated with the departure of director Mathias Vicherat [renvoyé devant la justice dans un dossier de violences conjugales] and the consequences of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” explained Jean Bassères, provisional administrator of the school since the end of March.

Several demonstrations by pro-Palestinian students followed by police interventions took place in the spring on the Sciences Po Paris campuses, inflaming political debate and giving rise to accusations of anti-Semitism.

Course on “Freedom of Expression”

From September, “a course on freedom of expression will be given to first and second year students, but it is part of a broader program, which aims to prepare for the start of the school year in better conditions,” said Jean Bassères.
