Paddles and kayaks available for self-service rental

LEISURE – Six Breton municipalities have installed rental stations this summer to promote and make these practices accessible

With over 5,000 kilometres of coastline, including the islands, Brittany is a fantastic playground for all water sports enthusiasts. In both summer and winter, surfers, sailors and kayakers can enjoy the invigorating waters of the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean to indulge in their passions.

On the shore, many spectators would also like to jump into the water. But, due to a lack of equipment, which is often expensive to buy, they unfortunately have to resign themselves to staying on dry land. To “promote and make these nautical practices” accessible, the Brittany region and the State have set up a system this summer to rent paddleboards and kayaks on a self-service basis.

By the sea and next to bodies of water

Called Nautic Lib, the device is currently being tested in six municipalities in the region. At the seaside of course, such as the Saint-Michel campsites in Erquy or Port-Blanc in Dinard, but also next to bodies of water, such as the Bétineuc nautical base or along the Vilaine in Guipry-Messac. After reserving a slot on the website of the companies Playa Rent and Eclozr, which operate the six stations, the customer receives a code to unlock the kayak or paddle, as well as a life jacket and a paddle.

Price-wise, it’s pretty reasonable with costs of (…) - 20minutes
