No double for Christophe Laporte, Belgian Tim Merlier crowned at home

Cycling – At the end of a rather eventful race, the Belgian Tim Merlier was crowned at home

For once, it didn’t work. Thomas “Pep Guardiola” Voeckler had once again established a bold strategy this Sunday in the province of Limburg in Belgium: to cause a bit of trouble to absolutely avoid finishing these European Championships in a sprint. Attacks throughout the race were therefore planned, but it didn’t work, much to the dismay of Christophe Laporte, the reigning European champion.

“It was an eventful race, and that’s what we wanted, because we didn’t want a bunch sprint,” explained the Visma-Lease a bike rider to the microphone of La chaîne L’Equipe. “We wanted an uncontrollable race to trap the teams. But Italy [qui a beaucoup roulé] was strong. It didn’t work. We did what we could, I don’t have any particular regrets.”

“We had a good group”

We thought that the former Cofidis sprinter was off to another great feat when a group of strong guys, including Mads Pedersen and Mathieu van Der Poel, set off with around fifty(…) - 20minutes
