But why is Tel Aviv bombing Syria?

Strikes – The Israeli army has not officially claimed responsibility for this strike, which notably hit a research center that appears to be developing weapons.

Israel seems to be on all fronts. That of Gaza, where nearly 41,000 people have lost their lives in a year of conflict and 72 hostages are still being held according to the Israeli army. That of the Lebanese border, where Hezbollah frequently exchanges fire with Tel Aviv. But also that of Syria, where strikes attributed to Israeli forces killed at least 18 people on Monday. This Tuesday, the Israeli army refused to “comment on information from foreign media”. Tel Aviv prefers not to claim responsibility for these strikes, in order to avoid pushing its adversaries to retaliate.

However, it is an open secret. In 2019, Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Israeli strikes in Syria, praising the “impressive success” of these attacks which aim to “block the Iranian military entrenchment in Syria”. “From 2013, when the Iranian presence began to take root in Syria, Israel began to strike Iranian targets or pro-Iranian proxies in Syria”, explains David Rigoulet-Roze, researcher at the French Institute for Strategic Analysis (IFAS).
