Automobile – The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, had announced this measure intended to reduce pollution, both noise and environmental, from the end of 2023 as a “legacy” of the Olympic Games.
She had promised it, she now gives a date. This Monday morning, Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, announced that the reduction of the authorized speed to 50 km/h on the Paris ring road would be applied from October 1st.
Nothing surprising according to the city councilor who had already announced that the measure would be applied “during October” during an interview given to our colleagues at West France and published on August 31. “We have been working on it since 2018, it is not a new subject” she specified this Monday before adding: “We have had votes at the Paris Council on the subject, moreover very unanimous, since 2018.”
Reduce pollution and increase safety
The reasons for this measure have been explained for several years by the municipal majority: to reduce nuisances for the 500,000 residents living along the ring road, to reduce air pollution and to provide greater safety for users. To justify this decision, the Paris city hall even claims that the median speed on the ring road is currently 50 km/h during the day, between 30 and 45 km/h during rush hour and 60 km/h at night.
