CRIF denounces threats that led to the cancellation of an Israeli film festival

Boycott – The representative council of Jewish Institutions of France deplores the cancellation of an Israeli film festival because of pro-Palestinian “intellectual terrorism”

He does not appreciate the cancellation of an Israeli film festival. The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) Alsace denounced, this Sunday, an “intellectual terrorism” concerning the pressure exerted by pro-Palestinian groups to prevent the holding of the annual film event Shalom Europa.

In a press release, the Crif Alsace deplores “the establishment of a climate of fear and hatred in Strasbourg” and “the pressure, intimidation and threats against the Star cinema and its staff”. After 15 years of programming, Stéphane Libs, manager of the Star cinemas, announced on Friday that he was giving up on organizing the event that was to be held from September 8 to 10 in Strasbourg.

“The decision to cancel was taken so as not to add violence to the tense context and to protect employees and audiences,” the operator explained. Several pro-Palestinian groups had called for the cancellation of this festival, which was initially scheduled to take place in June and had already been postponed amid tensions linked to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
