A truck that was heavily loaded with fuel. Thirteen people died “burned” in a traffic accident in the north of Ivory Coast involving a coach of passengers coming from Mali and a tanker truck, we learned Saturday from emergency services and local media.
“The collision between the bus and the tanker truck triggered a fire of frightening intensity,” said Police Secours, indicating a “still heavy provisional toll” of “13 charred bodies.” The toll was confirmed by the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP), which reported 45 injured, including 19 children. The latter were evacuated to hospitals in the neighboring towns of Katiola and Niakara.
Frequent fatal accidents
The accident occurred on Friday around 11pm (GMT and local time), on the A3 motorway that connects Bouaké and Korhogo, the two major cities in northern Ivory Coast. The collision occurred between the transport bus and a tanker truck “heavily loaded with fuel” that was coming in the opposite direction. The cause of this dramatic collision? A roadway narrowed by “a goods truck, parked without any signage”, indicates Police Secours, an alert platform that records fatal accidents in the country.
