Sick leave for medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) or miscarriage is now compensated from the first day, with no waiting period. This is a social justice measure that went unnoticed in the middle of summer, but with strong symbolism nonetheless. Several months after its announcement, this measure has been in effect since July 1.
A penalizing legal deadline
The legislative calendar takes a long time. Between the political announcement, then the examination in Parliament, the publication of the law and its effective application after publication of the necessary decrees, months or even years can pass. In this case, this measure in favor of active workers was therefore able to come to fruition rather quickly since it comes from the Social Security financing law for 2024 published in Official Journal December 27, 2023. The goal: to no longer penalize women for a dramatic event.
