DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – A 70-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). Present at the scene and a repeat offender, her husband was killed by the police
A 74-year-old man, already known to the courts for repeated acts of domestic violence, was arrested on Tuesday in Montauban, in the Tarn-et-Garonne department. He is suspected of the murder of his wife. His arrest was confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office in a press release.
The police intervened after being alerted by a family member, who informed them of a worrying situation at the home of this couple in their 70s. When they arrived, the police discovered the lifeless body of a 70-year-old woman, lying on the floor of the house. The husband, aged 74, was present at the scene at the time of the intervention. A stick, which may have been used as a weapon, was found near the body.
Prosecutor’s office requests autopsy
The prosecution has ordered an autopsy of the victim’s body, as well as the establishment of a thorough investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of this tragic act. According to the first elements of the investigation, the arrested man had already been sentenced in August 2022 to twelve months in prison with probation suspended for two years, a sanction accompanied by provisional execution.
