discontent – No one was injured. This violence broke out on the sidelines of a mobilization against the high cost of living

Two people opened fire on the facade of the Fort-de-France police station, without causing any injuries, on the night of Friday to Saturday, the day after urban violence broke out in the same neighborhood, the Martinique prefecture said.

Shot holes were visible on the entrance wall of the building, an AFP correspondent noted.

“The Fort-de-France police station was the target of two live ammunition shots fired by two hooded individuals on a motorbike,” the prefecture said in a statement. This violence was “strongly” condemned by the prefect of Martinique, Jean-Christophe Bouvier.

According to a police source, a person connected to this attack has been arrested.

“Colleagues are starting to get tired of this situation but they remain professional,” reacted Thierry Baucelin, general secretary of the Alliance Police Nationale union, on local radio station RCI.

For the second consecutive night, “roadblocks were set on fire again” in the Sainte-Thérèse district, “by groups of individuals who threw stones at the police,” the prefecture noted. The mobile gendarmes deployed on the scene responded by using tear gas.
