Cuddle Therapy – Is Snuggling Up to Your Dog the Real Antidote to Stress? Science’s Answer Might Surprise You

It’s not for nothing that they say that dogs are man’s best friend. A simple hug, a caress, and there you have it, your spirits are lifted, as if by magic. But it’s not just an impression: studies have proven it. These balls of fur really do have the power to brighten our days and put a smile back on our faces.

The Soothing Power of Hugs

According to a study published in Anthrozoös In July 2021, cuddling an animal may be the key to calming the mind. Researchers at Okanagan University in British Columbia followed 284 students before and after they met a therapy dog.

Some participants were content to interact remotely, while others had the chance to pet it. The result? While everyone felt a pleasant moment, only those who touched the animal saw their well-being really improve, proving that physical contact plays a crucial role in reducing stress.

“Direct interactions with therapy dogs through touch elicited greater welfare benefits than no touch,” confirmed Dr. John-Tyler Binfet, co-author of the study.

Doctor Binfet therefore strongly recommended that students during exam periods take 20 minutes each(…) - 20minutes
